Training on Integrating AI into Research and Teaching Begins at Wollega University, Institute of Technology
Wollega University’s Institute of Technology (IoT), in collaboration with the INDMET project, has launched a two-day Short-Term Capacity Building Training on Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Research and Teaching. The training started today and will continue through tomorrow, bringing together academic staff eager to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in the rapidly growing field of AI.
The program began with a warm welcome message from Dr. Ginbar Ensermu, Dean of IoT, who appreciated the initiative and the commitment of both IoT and INDMET in organizing such a timely program.
Following this, Dr. Melka Hika, Academic Vice President of Wollega University, officially opened the training. He expressed his appreciation to the Institute of Technology and conveyed special thanks to the INDMET project for addressing such a pressing and relevant topic. Dr. Melka emphasized the importance of digital transformation, the expanding role of artificial intelligence, and the need to ensure its ethical and responsible use in teaching and research. He encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions and apply the knowledge gained to enhance their academic practices. He also urged staff to continue taking advantage of INDMET-supported opportunities that strengthen institutional capacity.
Next, Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, INDMET Project Coordinator, provided an overview of the training. He highlighted the training objectives and expected outcomes, ensuring that participants clearly understood what they would gain over the two-day program. His briefing helped set the direction for the sessions and aligned participant expectations with the goals of the training.
The training is now underway and will continue tomorrow, equipping participants with practical insights and tools to integrate AI effectively into research and teaching at Wollega University.
