Wallaga University Shambu Campus hosted an impactful short training event under the INDMET project, designed to empower female students and provide them with the tools and inspiration to excel in their academic pursuits. The event, which brought together students, faculty, and stakeholders, combined engaging training sessions with a meaningful recognition of academic excellence. It left participants motivated and better equipped to overcome challenges and seize opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The event began with a welcoming address by Dr. Belay Beyene, Dean of Wallaga University Shambu Campus. In his speech, Dr. Belay emphasized the university’s dedicated commitment to promoting gender equity and fostering an environment that supports the academic success of female students. His remarks highlighted the institution’s role in addressing gender disparities in education and underscored the importance of initiatives like the INDMET project in advancing this mission.

Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, the INDMET Project Coordinator, provided a comprehensive introduction to the project’s objectives and vision. He explained how the project is strategically focused on gender mainstreaming, aiming to create inclusive academic spaces that empower female students to overcome societal and institutional barriers. His presentation set the stage for the day, establishing the importance of equipping students with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed.

The event featured two insightful training sessions that addressed critical areas of personal and academic development. The first session, led by Dr. Ayantu Mekonnen, focused on strategies for female student success in university. Dr. Ayantu delivered a dynamic and interactive presentation covering essential topics such as academic engagement, building support networks, addressing gender-specific challenges, personal development, and exploring opportunities for growth. She encouraged students to take ownership of their learning, invest in their personal and professional development, and embrace opportunities like internships, scholarships, and leadership programs. Her session not only provided practical advice but also inspired students to believe in their ability to excel.

The second session, facilitated by Mrs. Meskerem Derese, tackled the pressing issue of managing distractions in the digital age. She discussed how social media and other external factors can negatively impact academic performance if not managed effectively. Mrs. Meskerem offered actionable strategies for maintaining focus, managing time efficiently, and setting clear priorities to stay disciplined in the face of distractions. Her session resonated strongly with the audience, equipping them with tools to maintain their focus and achieve their academic goals.

The highlight of the event was the award ceremony, which recognized outstanding academic achievements among female students. The top three female students from each batch were celebrated for their exceptional performance and dedication to their studies. Each awardee received a cash prize as a token of encouragement to continue striving for excellence. This moment was filled with pride and inspiration, as the achievements of these students served as a powerful example for their peers.

This event was more than just a gathering; it was a transformative experience that demonstrated Wallaga University’s dedication to fostering an inclusive and empowering academic environment. The initiative exemplified the INDMET project’s mission to promote gender equality and support female students in overcoming challenges to thrive in their academic and personal journeys.
