INDMET Project coordinator Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, was invited to share his experiences at the Internationalization Workshop, organized by the International Relations and Partnership Directorate Office of Wollega University. His session was a highlight of the workshop, offering valuable insights into how the INDMET Project is helping bridge the gap between academia and industry through international collaboration.
During his talk, Dr. Endalkachew introduced the audience to NORHED II, a Norwegian initiative designed to strengthen higher education and research in low- and middle-income countries. He explained how the INDMET Project aligns with this vision by creating strong partnerships between universities and industries, ensuring that education remains practical and relevant. He shared how the project has been instrumental in redesigning curricula, integrating industry expertise into academic programs, and providing hands-on learning experiences for students. These efforts, he emphasized, are equipping graduates with the skills they need to thrive in a competitive job market.
As he delved deeper into the INDMET Project’s journey, Dr. Endalkachew spoke about the real impact it has had on students, faculty, and institutions. He shared success stories of how universities have embraced industry-driven teaching approaches, how faculty members have benefited from capacity-building programs, and how students are now more prepared for real-world challenges. His passion for the project was evident as he discussed the collaborations that have been built, the challenges that have been overcome, and the lessons learned along the way.
Another key focus of his talk was the Linnaeus-Palme Exchange Program, a Swedish initiative that supports faculty and student mobility. He reflected on how such international exchanges enrich teaching and research, expose students to new perspectives, and strengthen institutional ties across borders. These experiences, he noted, not only enhance learning but also foster a global mindset—something that is crucial in today’s interconnected world.
Wrapping up, Dr. Endalkachew shared his thoughts on what comes next. He emphasized that sustaining academia-industry partnerships requires more than just good ideas—it takes commitment, policy support, and ongoing collaboration. He encouraged participants to think beyond traditional academic models and embrace new ways of working with industries, policymakers, and international partners to create lasting change.
His presentation sparked engaging discussions, with many in the audience eager to learn more about how they could apply similar strategies in their own institutions. The session left participants inspired by the tangible progress made through the INDMET Project and motivated to explore new opportunities for collaboration.Dr. Endalkachew’s experience sharing was more than just a presentation—it was a testament to how meaningful partnerships can transform education and open doors for students, educators, and institutions alike. The workshop ended on a high note, reinforcing the importance of international engagement in shaping the future of higher education.
