The INDMET Project Office Conducted a Short Training for Female Students of Gimbi Campus, Wallaga University

The INDMET Short Training and Award Ceremony for female students at Wollega University Gimbi Campus was successfully conducted, marking a significant step in promoting gender mainstreaming and academic excellence. The event provided an enriching platform for female students to gain valuable insights into academic success strategies while recognizing their outstanding achievements.

The event commenced with a warm welcoming speech by Dr. Temesgen Soressa, Dean of Wollega University Gimbi Campus. In his address, he highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, emphasizing the importance of empowering female students to excel in their academic and professional journeys. Following the opening remarks, Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, INDMET Project Coordinator, introduced the INDMET project with a special focus on gender mainstreaming. He elaborated on the project’s initiatives in higher education and its role in addressing gender-related challenges, ensuring that female students receive the necessary support to thrive in their academic pursuits.

The program featured insightful discussions and short training sessions aimed at equipping female students with essential skills for academic success. Mrs. Netsanet Getachew, Academic Affairs Director of Wollega University Gimbi Campus, provided invaluable advice on how to succeed in their academic careers. She encouraged students to stay focused, utilize available resources, and maintain resilience in the face of challenges. The first training session was delivered by Dr. Ayantu Mekonnen, who presented strategies for female student success in university. Her session covered key areas such as academic engagement, building support networks, addressing gender challenges, personal development, and exploring opportunities. She emphasized the importance of active participation in academic activities, mentorship, faculty engagement, and taking advantage of scholarships, internships, and research opportunities.

Another insightful session was conducted by Mrs. Meskere Derese, focusing on time management and the effect of social media on academic performance. She emphasized effective time management techniques and the need for responsible social media usage to prevent distractions that could hinder academic performance. The event concluded with a closing speech by Mrs. Jalane Kebede, who commended the efforts of the participants and encouraged them to implement the knowledge gained from the training sessions.

A major highlight of the event was the award ceremony, where the top three female students from each batch were recognized for their exceptional academic achievements. As a token of encouragement, these students were honored with cash prizes, motivating them to continue striving for excellence in their studies.
