The INDMET Project, in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Technology, organized a three-day capacity-building training workshop titled “University of Applied Science Curriculum Development and Curriculum Review“. The workshop, supported by Norway through the NORHED II program, aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of curriculum planning, development, and design while deepening their knowledge of the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) model. Participants explored UAS characteristics to align academic programs with practical, industry-linked approaches.
The training was officially opened by Dr. Melka Hika, Academic Vice President of Wollega University. In his opening speech, Dr. Melka thanked the INDMET project office and organizers for their efforts and emphasized the importance of curriculum development and review in the context of UAS. He highlighted key elements such as strong industry linkages, involvement of industry experts in teaching, and internship opportunities for students.
Dr. Endalkachew Mosisa, INDMET Project Coordinator, followed with remarks on the project’s goals, particularly its focus on developing industry-relevant curricula to bridge academic and practical gaps.
The training workshop’s sessions were facilitated by Dr. Tefera Feyissa, Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, and Dr. Ginbar Ensermu, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology. The first session was led by Dr. Kebede Nemomsa, former Administrative Vice President of Wollega University. He delivered a presentation on “Curriculum Development and Curriculum Development Framework” providing participants with foundational insights and frameworks to guide effective curriculum design.
The training will continue over the next two days, offering interactive discussions and practical exercises aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to implement UAS-oriented curricula effectively.
