Wallaga University stakeholders’ discussion forum held on December 07/2023. Dr Endalkachew Mosisa, dean of Institute of Technology, delivered a presentation on the topic “Institutional Network for Joint Teaching and Research. He highlighted that UAS is known for its commitment to academic excellence and its emphasis on practical skills development in addition to theoretical knowledge. In his presentation, Dr. Endalkachew explored that Universities of Applied Sciences are supposed to undertake practice-oriented teaching, forge strong linkages and engage in collaborative applied research (with industries, TVET institutions and service sectors).

In addition, he discussed the significance of joint curriculum development in fostering collaboration among institutions. These partnerships enable the sharing of knowledge, teaching methodologies, and best practices. Joint curriculum development ensures that students receive a comprehensive education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing them to excel in their respective fields upon graduation.

Accordingly, WU, Institute of Technology almost completed the necessary preparation for joint curriculum development and joint teaching. In the current preparation stage, different capacity building training and workshops are conducted. Industry engineers and TVET teachers were granted full scholarships. Therefore, Wallaga University collaborates with local communities, government agencies, and non-profit organizations to develop community-oriented projects. These projects aim to address social, economic, and environmental challenges in the community. This will create a positive impact of community-oriented projects in providing students with practical experience, fostering social responsibility, and contributing to the overall development of the community.

As already described, WU, IoT will continue to organize various training programs and workshops to facilitate professional development and knowledge sharing among faculty, researchers, students, and industries. These initiatives cover a wide range of topics, including pedagogy, research methodologies, data analysis, technology integration, and project management. Additionally, the focus on training programs and workshops demonstrated UAS’s efforts in fostering professional development and knowledge sharing among faculty, researchers, and students.
